Fans of the iconic 99-cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate hotel-casino will have a chance to relive the past this month at a downtown restaurant.

7th & Carson at 616 E. Carson Ave. has obtained the recipe for the Golden Gate Original Shrimp Cocktail and will be serving them between 5 and 6 p.m. daily in June.

The Golden Gate offered the shrimp cocktails for nearly 50 years. They were served in six-ounce tulip sundae glasses with a spicy cocktail sauce and shredded cabbage. The cocktails were originally priced at 50 cents when it was first offered in 1959. The price was raised to 99 cents in 1991 and remained that price until 2008 when it was raised to $1.99. In 2013, the price was raised to $3.99.

Customers could purchase the shrimp cocktails from the San Francisco Shrimp Bar & Deli until it closed. After that, they were offered at Du-Par's Restaurant & Bakery inside of the hotel-casino. The restaurant, which was also famous for its pancakes, closed a couple of years ago.

The 99-cent shrimp cocktail used to be a staple in downtown Las Vegas. In addition to the Golden Gate, you could also purchase them at the Fremont hotel-casino, Four Queens, and California hotel-casino.
